The way he whispers “You won’t be sorry” is absolutely devastating. He’s so good here, and he makes Eric so irresistible. I mean, seriously: how can anyone not love Eric?

Eric haters, you people are CRAZEBALLS.

And, I love that the whispers harkens back to amnesia Eric, further linking the two parts of the REAL ERIC.  We got a glimpse of the love Eric is capable of during his amnesia and I expect we’ll see a lot more without the shroud of a curse…and it’s a beautiful thing!  :)

What totally crushed me in this scene wasn’t the fact that he got rejected, because that’s something I feel needed to happen. Sookie needs time to sort out her feelings and figure out which ones are caused by the blood and which are real. Plus, in my honest opinion, TB Sookie needs also needs this time to stand on her own, not be a damsel in distress, and grow a stronger back bone. Maybe even practice with her microwave fingers of fail?

But I digress… what really killed me in this scene was how fucking happy Eric was, and how he made zero attempt to hide it. This scene is part of the reason I love Alex so much: he’s not just a gorgeous face and body with a quirky personality, but he’s one of the best actors I’ve ever seen. Everything from the way he smiled and stood up from the couch, to the almost shaky tenor he whispers “You won’t regret this” with a twinkle in his eye was just spot on. And to have all that happiness ripped away in a second… I’m confident they’ll make their way back to each other in a romantic sooner or later, and they’ll be interacting plenty, but this still physical hurt to watch. That’s good acting/writing.

Yes, this was painful to watch. He was so open and trusting with her.
Once again, the costumes reinforce the scene’s theme. Eric and Bill are practically naked, wearing only bathrobes. Their true natures are revealed. Bill, always ready for life to turn tragic, seems more sanguine about her decision. His demeanor is reserved, although he softens somewhat when she asks for his forgiveness. Bill’s emotions, though easily aroused, are also shallow—at heart he is this cold and stoic. He has (just as he once claimed) lost some of the ability to love.
Eric, though, has not. Surface Eric may be cold, but this scene makes it apparent that he is, as Sookie’s dream self predicted, “a big faker.” He DOES feel, so strongly that he has to wear the armor or risk revealing too much. His apparent coldness is all surface, all armor to protect himself from his own intense emotions. His heart isn’t old—it’s young—and he is still capable of loving completely. If you can get past the formidable barriers he’s erected to protect himself, Eric is hugely vulnerable. Unlike Bill, he is not cold-hearted. Naked Eric is as warm and vulnerable as naked Bill is cold and shuttered.
Compared to our naked vamps, Sookie is covered in protective layers. She isn’t just fully dressed, she’s encased in a leather jacket (have we EVER seen her in a leather jacket before)? This is especially striking because Eric and Bill usually wear leather jackets like armor (remember Bill shrugging one on before going to meet Marnie in the cemetery).
The reversed clothing indicates that Sookie is in charge, for once, and Bill and Eric are not. It also reveals that she won’t let her emotions get the best of her. She’s shielded her heart from both of them, and despite her feelings she’s determined to go through with the breakup. The moment I saw her roll down her sleeves after feeding them I knew it was over. No matter what she said, she wasn’t going to choose either of them.
That’s why they’re in matching outfits—because Sookie can’t choose between them. Awash in vampire blood, she can’t tell the difference between her “real feelings” and her blood-induced feelings. Torn between two men who have, at various times, both lied to her and protected her, she’s having trouble sorting out who is currently trustworthy.
I mean, it changes weekly. Remember in her subjective timeline it’s only been about 10 days since Eric kissed her, chained her up, and fed her to Russell. But now, he loves her. Except, maybe in another week, he won’t and he’ll betray her. After all, three weeks before, she was convinced BILL was the love of her life and considered herself engaged to him. Then he broke-up with her, nearly drained her, and she learned HE’D betrayed her. Can she trust either of them for more than a few days? Can she trust her own emotions? Unlike many of us, Sookie hasn’t read the books. She doesn’t have that crystal ball telling her that she’s going to marry Eric, that his love IS dependable. All she’s got is what’s happened so far and she’s right—it IS a mess.
I understand her need to step back, let the emotional/sexual effects of the blood wear off, and have some time without the constant pressure to choose. At the same time, after watching Eric with her in season 4, it’s incredibly hard not to yell at the screen when she breaks his heart. Skarsgard, as usual, plays every emotion he’s asked to portray with absolute conviction. So when he’s told to be as warm and vulnerable as possible, he’s so absolutely sweet and true that watching her hurt him is, as an astute commenter wrote, agonizing. It’s like watching her kick a puppy. It’s hardly surprising a lot of anger has surfaced at Sookie for this scene. It’s written to make us feel this way, to make us sympathize with Pam’s anti-Sookie rant.
I’m not sure where they’re going with it, but I know viewers’ anger at Sookie was totally planned. You don’t have “fuckin’ Sookie” bandied about for two episodes if not to suggest to us that maybe she’s making mistakes, that she’s fallible and flawed. It doesn’t ruin the show if we come to that conclusion. Everyone is flawed; and this change of feeling is intentional. Sookie is more than a plot device—she’s a character who makes mistakes and takes things too far, and generally messes up and has to start again. If she is to be more than the dreaded Mary Sue (always perfect, always blessed) she has to make mistakes.
